Guillaume Tell
William Tell is a legendary hero of Swiss history who symbolizes courage and the aspiration to freedom.
At the beginning of the 14th century, under the Habsburg dynasty, Hermann Gessler commanded the cantons of Uri and Schwitz. According to myth, he placed his hat on top of a pole in the middle of the village square, forcing everyone who passed by to bend as if he were present. After crossing the square without making the required gesture, William Tell was condemned to aim at an apple placed on the head of his own son (Walter) with a crossbow. He completed the exercise with incredible precision.
Gessler, noticing that Tell had a second bolt on him, questioned him. William Tell replied that if he had missed and killed his son, the second bolt would have gone to Gessler. Frustrated by William Tell's insolence, Gessler ordered him imprisoned for life, but Tell managed to escape, then took revenge by killing him with an arrow.
Stay honest, courageous and strong, in life and on the tatami mats.
